On Friday, February 10, 2017, Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Bethany Harrison announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s position. Bethany Harrison began her service in the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in 2006.  She currently serves as Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, supervising the assistant prosecutors and staff.  Harrison is responsible for prosecuting the more serious crimes that occur within the city of Lynchburg.

Harrison has the endorsement and support of the current Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mike Doucette, who announced earlier that he will not seek reelection this year.

UPDATE: Bethany Harrison has now been endorsed by a total of 12 currently serving Commonwealth’s Attorneys. (7 Republicans, 5 Independents). Bethany is the only candidate who has been endorsed by a Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Bethany has been endorsed by local delegates Kathy Byron (R) 22nd District and Matt Fariss (R) 59th District

Harrison serves as the President of the Board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Adocates) and also serves on the Board of Directors of the YWCA.

Bethany is also the Chairperson of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence for the 24th Judicial Circuit
