Both WSET and the News & Advance recently ran stories on the topic of crime in the City of Lynchburg.  It is noted on this site, (Crime In Lynchburg- By The Numbers) that crime rates in Lynchburg are down since 2006 when Bethany Harrison began at the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Office.  Crime is also down significantly from levels seen in the 1980s and 1990s.

According to the Sgt. Gary Fink of the Lynchburg Police Department, violent crime decreased 9% from 2012 to 2016.

The Lynchburg Police Department says nonviolent crime rates over that period were down 30%.

 

Crime rates are down according to federal data from the FBI.

Crime rates are down according to state data from the Virginia State Police.

Crime rates are down according to city data from the Lynchburg Police Department.

There can be no dispute that thanks to the hard work of local law enforcement and the members of this community, progress has been made in the fight against crime.
